Szpilmans Talent für populäre Melodien

....Wie zeitlos ein paar seiner in die Hunderte gehenden Melodien für Millionen sind, von denen die vergnügungswillige Welt außerhalb von Polen bisher nicht viel gewusst hat, beweist die in diesen Tagen erschienene neue CD der wunderbaren kanadischen Sängerin Wendy Lands ­ auch dies natürlich ein Reflex auf die Polanski-Verfilmung. Szpilmans Standards (von 1936 bis 1970) werden in englischer Lyrik nachgedichtet. Doch im Gegensatz zu den skrupelfrei mit reichlich Blödsinn zugetexteten Szpilman-CDs zum Film ist dieses Album: reine Liebe und mit derselben gemacht. Angefangen bei der exquisiten Besetzung (darunter Joni-Mitchell-Gitarrist Greg Leisz und der frühere Keyboarder von Prince, Renato Neto) bis hin zur Produktion durch John Leftwich entsteht auf der CD eine einzige Ehrenbekundung für die noble Unterhaltungskunst von Wladyslaw Szpilman. Nicht nur zur Freude des Sohnes Andrzej, der am Zustandekommen des Projekts maßgeblich beteiligt war, swingt das hier ­ manchmal durch schöne Country-Kurven ­ artistisch sehr entspannt vor sich hin. Als könne Musik alles, fast alles wieder gut- und vergessen machen. Wenigstens für eine Dreiviertelstunde....

Szpilman's talent for popular melodies

...How timeless a few of the hundreds of melodies for millions are, of which the entertainment world outside Poland did not know much, is proven with the CD that has been released these days by the wonderful Canadian Singer Wendy Lands - also this a reflex to the Polanski movie. Szpilman's standards (from 1936 to 1970) were done with English lyrics. But contrary to the Szpilman Soundtrack CD's scrupulously filled with nonsense text: pure love - and made with the same. Starting with the exquisite casting (including Joni Mitchell guitarist Greg Leisz and the ex Prince- keyboarder Renato Neto) to the production by John Leftwich you have on this CD a unique tribute to the noble art of entertainment by Wladyslaw Szpilman. Not only for the pleasure of the son Andrzej, who contributed substantially to the creation of this product, but it swings here - sometimes through beautiful country curves - artistic and very relaxed. As if music can almost heal and make forget. At least for three quarter of an hour...
